Plumbing a town that grew from 1,578 to nearly 29,000
Brownsburg was settled in 1824 along White Lick Creek and stayed a small rail town for over a century — its population was still just 1,578 in 1950. The explosive growth since then, to 7,628 by 1990 and 28,973 by the 2020 census, means most of Brownsburg's plumbing infrastructure is newer than the town's Big Four Railroad-era name suggests, but the older in-town lots near the original 1848 plat still carry legacy supply lines worth tracing before a renovation.
